Chemistry unit 3
Two half-cells contain the same metal M and its divalent ion M2+. At the stated temperature, the reduction potential is E = E0 + 0.030 log10([M2+]), with concentrations in mol L-1. A salt bridge connects the cells. Initially the left concentration is 0.010 and the right concentration is 1.0. Electrodes have ample metal. A positive cell voltage is E(cathode)-E(anode); electrons flow externally from anode to cathode. Treat volumes as equal and constant and ignore side reactions.
